Delaware early voting period shatters record

DOVER — Delawareans have set records at the polls this general election cycle.

And the Nov. 5 general election is still just days away.

During the 2022 election, 55,655 Delawareans cast their ballot during the 10-day early voting period.

This year, the early voting period began on Oct. 25, with 19 locations spread throughout New Castle, Kent and Sussex counties.

While the early voting window closes on Nov. 3, there have been over 153,000 voters who have cast their ballot in the First State as of Friday, according to the University of Florida Election Lab, which sources their statistics from the Delaware Department of State.

“The first election cycle that Early Voting was authorized in Delaware was 2022, a mid-term election year, and 2024 is the first Presidential Election cycle Delaware has offered Early Voting since the Early Voting option was authorized in Delaware,” said Cathleen Hartsky-Carter, Community Relations Officer for the Delaware Department of Elections.

“Voters are voting early in much higher numbers than 2022.”
