Leadership unchanged for Delaware Senate’s Democrats

DOVER — Ahead of the 153rd Delaware General Assembly in January 2025, Senate Democrats have reelected their incumbent leadership team.

President Pro Tempore Dave Sokola of Newark will return to his post, while Majority Leader Bryan Townsend of Newark and Majority Whip Elizabeth “Tizzy” Lockman of Wilmington will remain in their roles.

“In recent years, we have made significant progress when it comes to making our neighborhoods safer, our schools stronger, our justice system fairer, our healthcare more affordable, our childcare and senior care more accessible, and our environment more sustainable,” Sen. Townsend said in a statement.

“Under our leadership, we have been able to pass major legislative initiatives like raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour, implementing a system of paid family and medical leave, creating a legal framework for the sale of recreational marijuana, and curbing gun violence through a series of common sense measures.”

Sen. Sokola has served as president pro tempore since 2021, while Sens. Townsend and Lockman entered their leadership positions in 2020.
