Longwood Garden’s new VP discusses the garden’s climate-resilient vision

In the midst of a transformation of one of the world’s most renowned botanical gardens, which happens to be in Delaware’s backyard, more changes are coming than conservatories and new exhibits.

“Longwood Reimagined: A New Garden Experience,” a multimillion-dollar project that enhances the world-renowned garden with more breathtaking features, will be open to the public on Friday, Nov. 22.

This $250 million revitalization project transforms 17 acres of Longwood’s renowned Conservatory and grounds.

The renovations have caused such a buzz in the botanic garden community, that the executive director of the Royal Gardens in Melbourne jumped on the opportunity to move across the world to work at Longwood Gardens.

We sat down with Chris Cole, Longwood Gardens’ newest vice president of horticulture to see what his vision for the future of Longwood Gardens has in store.

“Chris’s global perspective on horticulture coupled with his outstanding esthetic, strategic leadership and project management skills make him an excellent addition to Longwood and to our outstanding horticulture team,” said Sharon Loving, chief horticulture and facilities fficer at Longwood Gardens. “His expertise will be instrumental as Longwood continues to innovate and advance our mission.”
