Delaware police to set up a DUI checkpoint on Friday night. What to know

The Delaware Office of Highway Safety, Delaware State Police and local police are conducting a DUI checkpoint. When and where exactly is unknown at this time.

This will be the second checkpoint statewide in 2024, the first was in Milford in September. It was set up between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. and led to 11 arrests, four of them for DUI. It was the first checkpoint in Delaware since 2019.

Drivers over the age of 21 with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 or more can be convicted of driving under the influence. First-time offenders could incur a fine of $500-$1,500 and get up to a year in prison.

Drivers could also lose their licenses for one to two years.

According to the Delaware Office of Highway Safety, 31 traffic deaths were related to drugs or alcohol in 2023.
