Sausage Shipped From Impero Foods & Meats In MD Recalled

Thousands of pounds of raw pork sausage products that were produced in Maryland without the benefit of a federal inspection are subject to a federal recall.

Baltimore-based Impero Foods & Meats announced that nearly 7,500 pounds of pork produced between Oct. 3 and Dec. 19 are subject to the recall, according to the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

Recalled items are limited to 10-pound white cardboard box cases that contain plastic bags of “Old World Italian Sausage” with “rope” or “link” handwritten on the case.

The products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. 10827” inside the USDA mark of inspection and were only shipped to restaurants and retailers in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Delaware.

Officials say that the problem was discovered when FSIS was performing surveillance activities at a retailer after notification that items may have been produced at a facility that had a suspended grant of inspection.

Further investigation determined that the items were produced without the benefit of FSIS inspection.
