My mom taught me that when you receive a gift, you write a thank you note. And this is that note.
About nine years ago, I was a Delawarean who simply believed our government could do better.
I decided to do something about it, and I ran for office.
I was repeatedly told that a middle school math teacher like me had no business running for, let alone winning, the election to become New Castle County Executive and lead our state’s largest local government.
But I knew that, with the right leadership, we could improve public safety, help the most vulnerable, and create a 21st-century, efficient county government.
And you, the voters of New Castle County, gave me a shot.
Over the last eight years, we’ve made enormous progress. We dreamed big about a community that could think creatively to care for those in communities too long left behind, along with a county government that would use the latest innovations to keep us safe.
We didn’t make promises. We made plans. And we turned those plans into progress.
