The District of Columbia Department of Employment Services (DOES) has introduced a new Unemployment Insurance (UI) Benefits System. The goal of this system is to simplify the application process for UI benefits and make it more secure. It is designed to process claims more efficiently and speed up payments to claimants.

DOES Director Dr. Unique Morris-Hughes said the new system is part of their commitment to serve District workers better. The updated UI Benefits System aims to enhance the user experience by making the application process easier and more accessible to everyone in the community.

The system will be operated through a single-service portal. This portal will enable claimants and employers to submit necessary documents, file new claims, track the status of existing claims and appeals, and interact with DOES benefits representatives. The system can also be accessed and managed from mobile devices like smartphones and tablets.

With the system upgrade, claimants must now confirm their identity using ID.me, a service certified by the federal government for identity verification. This service helps government agencies deliver benefits to residents. Claimants can find out how to set up an ID.me account and what documents and devices they need for identity verification through an ID.me guide.
