Three officers from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Special Operations Division received Lifesaving Medals. Master Patrol Officer (MPO) Christopher Reisinger, Officer Travis Collins, and Officer Anthony Campanale were honored for saving a colleague who collapsed during a physical training test on October 10, 2023.
Upon seeing their colleague collapse, the officers assessed the situation. They found the officer had no pulse and began life-saving procedures. Officer Collins performed chest compressions while MPO Reisinger retrieved an automated external defibrillator (AED). Officer Campanale assisted with the AED, and they successfully revived the unconscious officer.
Police Chief Pamela A. Smith thanked the officers for their quick response and skills. She noted that their actions enabled the officer to return to his family. The officer is expected to fully recover after surgery.
On January 29, 2024, Chief Smith presented the Lifesaving Medals to the three officers. The Metropolitan Police Department continues to equip its officers with necessary training and tools, including CPR and Tactical Emergency Casualty Care training.
