Volusia County homestead owners getting the full new exemption would save about $1,164 on 2027 property taxes if Florida voters pass Amendment 3 on November 3, the county appraiser estimates

Volusia County homeowners with a homestead exemption would see about $1,164 come off their 2027 property taxes if Florida voters pass Amendment 3 on November 3, according to an estimate from the county property appraiser. The figure uses the countywide average millage rate and assumes a home gets the full new exemption. Passage takes 60 percent of the vote, and no bill changes unless it clears that bar.

How the appraiser gets to $1,164

The Volusia County Property Appraiser’s Amendment 3 page shows the math. The amendment would raise the non-school homestead exemption to up to $150,000 on January 1, 2027. Current law gives up to $51,411 for 2026, made up of $25,000 for all taxes and $26,411 for non-school taxes. The added exemption is $98,589.

That $98,589 is multiplied by 11.8092 mills, the 2025 countywide aggregate average non-school millage rate. The result is the $1,164. A mill is $1 of tax per $1,000 of taxable value, so each extra $1,000 of exemption is worth about $11.81 at that rate…
