Florida GOP Rep. Salazar Spars With Host Over Taking Credit for Funds She Voted Against

When DeFede asked Salazar to confirm that she had voted against the CHIPS Act, the representative said she would need to ask her staff about it

Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar, R-Fla., sparred with CBS Miami host Jim DeFede after taking credit for infrastructure funds that were brought into her district by bills she voted against, including the CHIPS and Science Act, in an interview that aired Sunday.

When DeFede questioned the lawmaker over taking credit for funds provided to her district from the measure and pressed her to confirm that she had voted against it, the representative said she would need to ask her staff about it.

“But why don’t we look at the $40 million that I have brought to this community?” Salazar asked. “Are you proud of me?”

“Sometimes that money comes from bills that you voted against,” DeFede explained mentioning a project that is being funded by the bill’s passing. “You voted against the CHIPS Act and yet you praise the fact that the South Florida climate resilience tech hub is gonna be started in Miami, right?”
