If I asked you to picture famous bridges, you’d probably think of cities like San Francisco, New York, and London.
You probably wouldn’t picture Florida. However, Florida does have some relatively well-known bridges such as The Sunshine Skyway Bridge and the Seven Mile Bridge in the Florida Keys – both of which ESPN called “2 of the most beautiful bridges in the country” in the fall of 2023.
There is one bridge in Florida that is a little less known, however. And whether you consider it beautiful might depend upon how you feel about graffiti or whether it is important to you that a bridge actually goes somewhere.
Introducing Florida’s “Bridge To Nowhere:” According to the University of North Florida’s Digital Commons, The Suwannee Springs Bridge is a truss bridge that first opened in 1931. Today, it is closed to traffic but open to pedestrians.
Often nicknamed Suwannee’s Suwannee’s “bridge to nowhere.” According to The Travel, the bridge closed in 1971 because an updated bridge took its place. The structure is still robust and sound, and many cyclists, walkers, bikers, and sightseers enjoy having a look at it.
