Florida To Euthanize Dangerous Dogs with the “Pam Rock Act”

Under the proposed “Pam Rock Act,” Florida is set to implement rigorous measures that include mandatory registration of dangerous dogs, hefty insurance requirements for owners, and the potential destruction of repeat-offending canines. The bill articulates a comprehensive strategy to address the issue of dog attacks, emphasizing the need for owners to secure their pets adequately and take full responsibility for their behavior.

The definition of a “dangerous dog” under this act includes those that have aggressively bitten, attacked, or inflicted severe injury on a person or domestic animal. Additionally, dogs that have chased or approached individuals in a menacing manner, unprovoked, are also classified under this category. The legislation mandates that owners who are aware of their dog’s aggressive tendencies must confine their pets securely within a proper enclosure and ensure they are muzzled when outside. Failure to comply with these regulations could result in a $1,000 fine for the owner and the requirement to purchase a $100,000 dog liability insurance policy.
