Publix to open a pharmaceutical plant in Florida, creating hundreds of jobs

Publix, renowned as the largest employee-owned company in the United States, is set to further its footprint in Florida. With over 250,000 employees and approximately 850 stores in the Sunshine State, Publix is a household name in grocery and pharmacy services. The company’s presence is bolstered by its nine grocery distribution centers and eleven manufacturing facilities, dedicated to producing a variety of food products.

Now, in a significant expansion of its pharmaceutical division, Publix is preparing to open a new manufacturing facility. This development, reported by The Jacksonville Business Journal in late January of 2024, represents a substantial investment in Florida’s economy. Publix has received $5.8 million in incentives from St. John’s County and plans to invest approximately $145 million in total. The site for this venture is a commercial property located at 200 Accolade Avenue.

The planned 168,000-square-foot warehouse is not just a building; it’s a beacon of productivity and efficiency. On opening, this facility is expected to fill around 500,000 prescriptions weekly, with potential expansion to handle up to 1 million. This scale of operation is indicative of Publix’s commitment to meeting the pharmaceutical needs of its customers efficiently.
