Duval County School District students are among the first in Florida to use a new learning system that delivers lessons from the Holocaust to combat bullying, cyber bullying and hate speech.
Although Holocaust instruction in Florida has been mandated for several decades, it was unfunded until December 2023, when the State provided seed funding to the Holocaust Learning Experience (HLE), a non-profit developed by MorseLife Health System in West Palm Beach, to develop, deploy and deliver lessons from the Holocaust.
“At the beginning of this school year, I met with 49 teachers in Duval to introduce them to our Learning Management System,” said Leigh Routman, executive director of the HLE. “Our age appropriate lessons for grades 5-12, go across the curriculum and can be incorporated into a number of classes.”
The Learning Management System delivers a bundled, plug-and-play approach that includes original, professionally produced interviews and testimonies of Holocaust survivors and multi-sensory, historically accurate documentary-style films.
