In a 2015 article by Miami New Times, the publication argued that South Florida is definitely “not the south” culturally. South Florida, the publication argued, is a cultural mix of New York and the Caribbean.
Whether you agree with this sentiment or not, if you drive throughout Florida, you can arguably observe that many places in the Sunshine State do embrace southern home cooking – as there are many Florida restaurants that serve and specialize in the same.
Unfortunately, one restaurant in this genre recently closed down for the third time due to a state inspection, but it appears to be reopened.
About The Chicken Pantry: This restaurant does not appear to have a formal website, but its Instagram page says the restaurant provides “Southern Home Cooking At Its Best Since 1956.”
The restaurant’s Facebook page pictures a no-frills retro joint that often posts its specials. For example on New Year’s, it served a cornbread waffle topped with pork, blacked eyes peas, and greens, with a side of macaroni and cheese.
