Florida’s Safest City For Retirees Is Coastal, Small, and Used To Be Called Mosquito Inlet

There are many things that retirees look for in a Florida place to call home, but one of the highest concerns is arguably safety. No one wants to feel vulnerable and unsafe in their own home. A national publication has recently ranked Florida’s safest cities, and the top pick is a small, coastal town with an interesting history – Ponce Inlet.

About The Study And What It Measured: In March of 2024, Go Banking Rates analyzed the cities it felt were both the 25 safest and cheapest to retire in Florida. The publication used FBI data in its analysis and it also looked at home costs.

Florida’s Safest City – Ponce Inlet: You’d be forgiven if you’re not familiar with this city. It isn’t often mentioned in retirement lists. The city, not far from Daytona Beach, used to be called Mosquito Inlet until residents decided to change it to Ponce de Leon Inlet in 1927. It was Florida’s highest showing on the survey

Ponce Inlet is home to Florida’s tallest lighthouse (which is also the third tallest in the United States) as well as the Marine Science Center. This is a small, charming, seaside community with a population of only around 3,400.
