The ‘Free State of Florida’ isn’t a catchy slogan. It’s a bad joke.

‘Free State’ signs are a joke

I was appalled to see an official “Welcome to Florida” sign as we drove back into Florida that included the verbiage “The Free State.”

I guess the other 49 states are not free!

Meanwhile, the staff at Florida’s Department of Transportation has refused to say where this phrase originated or why it is on highway signs.

The new signs are up everywhere at a cost of $60,000. The signs still say “Sunshine State” but clearly there is no “Sunshine” when it comes to this. This is Gov. Ron DeSantis’ political slogan for our state, but I beg to differ with him.

If you are a civil servant who cares more for the preservation of state parks, or prosecutors who consider their underserved victims, or someone exposing the inaccuracies in COVID accountability, you are not free to inform the public without the consequence of being fired from your job!
