Crews from Carthage Water and Electric return from Florida

CARTHAGE, Mo. — Crews from Carthage Water and Electric (CWEP) return home after helping to restore power to hurricane affected areas of Florida.

Four linemen from CWEP arrived back in Carthage Monday afternoon (10/14). The crews spent a week in central Florida, helping to restore power to homes and businesses hit by high winds from hurricane Milton.

The storm crossed the Florida peninsula after making landfall along the state’s gulf coast as a category three hurricane.

Under the direction of Orlando Power, crews from CWEP worked alongside crews from several other states across the U.S.

Their primary job was to restore power lines in the city of Orlando that were damaged by the hurricane’s fierce winds.

“We always like going and helping whenever we can. Just like here, if we have an issue, we know that under municipal, they’ll send us help and it’s just a good feeling to go down and help everybody out,” said James Pittman, a lineman with CWEP.

Carthage Water and Electric was just one of 13 Missouri power companies that responded to Florida to aid in power restoration after hurricane Milton.
