Heavy Showers & Thunderstorms Possible Across Parts of Iowa, Wisconsin, and Illinois

Widely Scattered Tropical Showers & Thunderstorms Possible Across Florida East Coast

10/22/24 10:13am ET

Good morning everyone. In the Northeast today, we’re doubling up on our warm days before a cooling trend begins. Sunshine and light winds will help boost temperatures near 80 again along the coastal plain one more time before we settle back into 70’s. Much cooler air begins to filter in by Thursday, with 60’s returning until Sunday. Once Sunday hits, look for widespread 50’s and maybe even some 40’s in the higher elevations as frost and freeze concerns return for the overnight hours.

For New England, we’re watching that tropical energy very closely to see if an approaching front is enhanced as that energy goes well-out-to-sea. If so, we could get some squally tropical showers and thunderstorms across Southeast New England some time on Thursday. We’ll keep an eye on that for Rhode Island and extreme southeast Massachusetts for some scattered gusty showers & rumbles.

Florida is dealing with those scattered gusty showers as we speak. They’re on the widely scattered side, but we are seeing some heavier brief rain mixed in with a few rumbles of thunder along the east coast. That consistent onshore flow is also creating issues with rough surf, enhanced tides, and minor coastal flooding.
