FEMA Director Urges People To Talk To FEMA Instead Of Relying On “Misinformation” About Benefits

Many Floridians lost power and therefore food during the recent storms and those were arguably some of the lucky ones. Others suffered home damage. Understandably, Floridians who need help want it – and quickly. And that may be why residents are trying to pool information amongst themselves. However, a FEMA director is urging people to rely on FEMA itself for information instead of relying on what he called misinformation.

A FEMA Director’s Urging To Talk With FEMA Directly: Peter Fraenkel, FEMA’s disaster recovery center manager, recently spoke with NPR about the rumors swirling on social media that he said are sometimes inaccurate and can arguably interfere with people getting the help they need. He explained:

“One of the things I do like to stress is for people not to listen to the rumors that are out there, not to listen to their neighbors, to be honest with you, because there’s a lot of misinformation going on out there. Come in, talk to us, get the truth from us, and what we can provide for you.”
