Flash Flood Threat as Heavy Rain Continues Across Northern Florida and South Georgia

Tallahassee, FL – The National Weather Service in Tallahassee has issued a flood watch for areas in northern Florida and south Georgia as scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected to bring heavy rainfall through Wednesday night and into Thursday. This wet weather, fueled by a surface trough extending from the eastern Florida Big Bend into south central Georgia, has heightened the risk of flash flooding, especially near the I-75 corridor and the northeast Florida Big Bend.

Rainfall totals in the flood watch area are projected to reach 3 to 5 inches, with some high-resolution models indicating possible accumulations of up to 6 to 10 inches. Areas outside the watch may also experience heavy downpours, though the flood watch covers the highest-risk zones in northern Jefferson and Madison counties.
