Strong to Severe Thunderstorms Possible Across Parts of Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas

Powerful Cold Front Brings Heavy Rain & Strong Winds to Parts of New York & New Jersey

12/11/24 9:06am EST

Good morning everyone. Our powerful cold front is closing in on the East Coast, with heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds being experienced from New England down into the Southeast.

Our biggest concern as far as strong to severe thunderstorms, belong to areas of North Carolina & the Outer Banks, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida as the day progresses. As of now, we’re watching that line extend from central and eastern North Carolina, central South Carolina, eastern Georgia, and down across northern Florida.

Look for this activity to strengthen with the afternoon heating and as convection builds with low pressure deepening a bit. While we won’t see widespread severe weather, we still have the risk of strong to severe thunderstorms possible across the mentioned area. Embedded heavier thunderstorm cells could contain damaging winds, hail, frequent lightning, torrential rain and the risk of a few tornadoes. The timeline on this action looks to be from late morning into the evening hours today.
