The US Postal Service will be suspended on January 9 to Honor Jimmy Carter in Florida

Post Offices across the country, including Florida, will be closed on Thursday, January 9, 2025, in observance of a national day honoring former President Jimmy Carter, who passed away on December 29 at the age of 100.

The US Postal Service acknowledged that it will suspend mail service on Thursday.

“Out of respect for the 39th President of the United States and to honor his vast contributions to our country during his lifetime, and consistent with the Presidential Proclamation, the United States Postal Service will suspend regular mail deliveries, retail services and administrative office activity on Jan 9,” said Tiffany Rowland, a Strategic communications specialist with the U.S. Postal Service.

According to the release, on this day, there will be no mail delivery, caller service, or access to Post Office Box service. Normal operations will resume on Friday, January 10, while Post Offices will be open for regular hours on January 8.

“There will be no mail delivery, caller service, or Post Office Box service. All services resume on Friday, January 10,” the release also confirmed.
