You may be familiar with the Seven Wonders of the World, a renowned list highlighting some of the most remarkable achievements of human creativity and nature from ancient history. While those are certainly impressive, we believe that Florida has its own unique wonders that deserve recognition. Selecting just seven was a challenge, as the state boasts a variety of awe-inspiring natural and artificial marvels, many steeped in rich historical significance. After careful deliberation, we’re excited to share our selection of the top wonders in Florida:
1. The Florida Reef
The Florida Reef is recognized as the third-largest barrier reef globally and stands out as the only living reef located in the continental United States. Known variously as the “Florida Keys Reef Tract” or the “Great Florida Reef,” this magnificent natural wonder is safeguarded by several protected areas including the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, Biscayne National Park, and John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. Its breathtaking beauty and vibrant marine life make it a must-visit destination that warrants numerous explorations.
2. Gulf Islands National Seashore
Boasting stunning white sand beaches, vibrant emerald waters, and expansive blue skies, this untouched haven of Northwest Florida is a destination everyone should experience at least once—if not multiple times. With its beautiful trails and historic forts, this captivating coastline invites endless exploration and appreciation.
3. Fort Jefferson
When it was being built, Fort Jefferson stood as one of the largest forts ever erected. Its construction spanned three decades, yet it was never completed. Despite this, it remains the largest masonry structure in the Americas today. Currently, Fort Jefferson is part of Dry Tortugas National Park, situated just west of Key West. The fort, along with its stunning natural surroundings, has turned into a captivating and popular spot for both locals and visitors.
4. Silver Springs State Park
Silver Springs State Park, located in Central Florida, is a historic destination and one of the world’s largest natural springs. Its stunning beauty and rich history make it a must-visit location that you have to experience firsthand!

5. Lake Okeechobee
Lake Okeechobee, whose name translates to “big water,” ranks as the seventh-largest freshwater lake in the United States. Covering an impressive area of 730 square miles, it boasts an average depth of only around nine feet. This makes it an ideal spot for swimming, though not particularly suited for diving!
6. Venetian Pool
The Venetian Pool, located in Coral Gables, holds the title of the largest freshwater pool in the United States. This stunning pool boasts an impressive 820,000 gallons of pristine spring water, sourced from the local aquifer and replenished daily. Constructed in 1924, the pool features coral formations that mimic the enchanting architecture of Venice, Italy. Visitors are treated to an exceptional experience, surrounded by lush scenery, enchanting waterfalls, and charming grottos, all contributing to its allure as a one-of-a-kind swimming destination.

7. Devil’s Den
Devil’s Den is a remarkable karst formation located in Williston, characterized as a collapsed cave that reveals an underground river.
