Embedded Severe Weather With Tornadoes Are Possible

Good afternoon everyone. As expected, we are starting to see that slow moving cold front become reenergized as it bumps into dense tropical air and associated energy. This is the starting process of a long-duration event in terms of heavy showers and thunderstorms, with embedded severe weather, stretching from the Gulf Coast, the Southeast, and into the Central States.

A good exmaple of this right now are parts of Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Alabama, and Tennessee. Cities such as Atlanta, Montgomery, and Knoxville, are all seeing on and off heavy showers and thunderstorms, including the risk of isolated severe weather. We are also expecting heavy thunderstorms to impact interior parts of North & South Carolina in cities such as Asheville, Greenville, and Spartanburg.

From here on and until the passage of our front & subsequent tropical system, look for the risk of widespread strong to severe embedded thunderstorms within these pockets of heavy rain. The potential is there for damaging winds, hail, frequent lightning, torrential rain, and numerous brief tornadoes. We could also see flooding in low lying and poor drainage areas.
