Georgia Power says 620,000 people are still without power in Helene’s aftermath

COLUMBUS, Ga. ( WRBL ) — In statement released Friday afternoon Georgia Power is estimating 620,000 people are still without power in the wake of Hurricane Helene .

Georgia Power says its teams have restored power to about 250,000 people, but close to 650,000 are still in the dark.

The company says it has brought in resources from out of state. This includes personnel from Alabama Power, Mississippi Power and other companies.

“The response force currently engaged is larger than the company’s response to other major hurricanes including Michael, Irma and Zeta,” Georgia Power said.

Hurricane Helene’s impact was felt by several areas across the state. Georgia Power says the work force of more than 14,000 have not only been restoring power, but conducting damage assessments.

“Damage assessment teams enter the field and begin the restoration process as soon as conditions allow,” Georgia Power says. “Given the inaccessibility of many areas, teams are utilizing drones and other technology to patrol damaged lines.”
