Heavy Showers & Thunderstorms Possible Across Parts of Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina

Tropical Energy Surging Northward to Enhance Approaching Cold Front

11/05/24 1:43pm EST

Good afternoon everyone. We continue to watch tropical energy slowly making its way towards the Gulf of Mexico, complicating our late-week forecast.

An approaching cold front along the Gulf States which is responsible for our severe weather today across parts of Louisiana and Mississippi, will help draw that tropical moisture up and into the Gulf Coast. Long before it makes it ashore, very humid tropical air will help enhance that front.

In doing so, we expect very heavy showers and thunderstorms to develop late tomorrow night well-ahead of that front and into parts of Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. The peak of the action looks to be Thursday and Thursday night, with locally damaging winds, frequent lightning, hail, and torrential rain possible. We could also see some rain flooding possible in flood-prone areas.

Once our front and tropical energy merges, look for another round of soaking rain up the Appalachians and into the Northeast. While we don’t expect widespread heavy rain, light to moderate showers could provide a good, much-needed, soaking rain across parts of New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.
