Students from Troup High School (THS) made headlines this week as they successfully passed a mock bill during the 80th annual Georgia Youth Assembly. The event, designed to give high school students a hands-on experience in state government, brought together young leaders from across Georgia to participate in a simulated legislative session.
The Troup High delegation worked diligently on crafting and advocating for their mock bill, which addressed issues relevant to their community and fellow students. The Georgia Youth Assembly provides a platform where students can write, present, and debate bills, much like real lawmakers in the state government.
“The Youth Assembly gives us an incredible opportunity to understand how government works and the process that goes into passing a law,” said one THS student delegate. “It’s a lot of hard work, but it’s rewarding to see our ideas make it through the legislative process.”
Throughout the event, students took on roles as representatives, senators, and other officials, learning about the intricacies of the lawmaking process. THS students presented their bill, navigating the committee stages, debates, and votes necessary to move it forward.
