Church Brothers Farms has rescinded its voluntary recall of green onions originally announced on October 18, 2024, after the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) confirmed that the positive Salmonella test was due to a laboratory error. Subsequent testing revealed no contamination, and the recall has been canceled.
The recall had affected a limited number of retail and foodservice customers in Canada and the U.S., including the following states: Alabama, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, New York, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Virginia.
CFIA’s whole genome sequencing (WGS) analysis confirmed the Salmonella sample was cross-contaminated, possibly with the laboratory’s positive control strain. The CFIA verified that this was an isolated incident and that no other products were impacted.
This correction updates the original October 18, 2024, press release titled “Church Brothers Farms Recall Green Onions Due to Possible Health Risk.”
