HONOLULU (KHON2) — Tonight, a weak storm front lingering over the central islands is set to bring overcast conditions and an increased likelihood of precipitation to the Big Island. Looking ahead, a more stronger cold front is expected to cross the islands on Friday, beginning a slight weather change. As this brisk-moving front move through, it will usher in widespread light to moderate showers covering a significant portion of the islands, persisting into the early hours of Saturday.
Anticipate a shift in weather patterns over the weekend, as trade winds are set to make a comeback. Following the passage of the late-week front, these trade winds are projected to strengthen, bringing windy conditions back to the state. Trade winds have been gone since the first day of January. This change in weather conditions indicates a departure from the dissipating cold front’s influence, and the anticipated return of trade winds will likely bring more stable weather back to the state.
Residents and visitors alike should prepare for different weather conditions, ranging from overcast skies and increased precipitation to the arrival of brisk trade winds. Trade winds from Friday through Monday may peak in speeds between 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 40 mph. This weekend, mostly dry but windy weather is anticipated.
