High bacteria levels detected in waters at Kailua Pier

The Hawai’i State Department of Health is retesting waters at Kailua Pier after high levels of bacteria were identified. Levels of 500 per 100 mL were detected during routine beach monitoring. The state agency is uncertain about the representativeness of the first sample since the beach has historically met the acceptable beach threshold level, and there is no known source of fecal contamination.
