Hawaii lawmakers introduced and carried over House Bill 199 for the 2024 state legislature session. The bill states a program assisting Hawaii residents to purchase electric vehicles to help achieve the goal of 100% clean energy by 2045.
Here is the summary of Hawaii House Bill 199:
Establishes a zero-emission vehicle fleet purchasing assistance program within the Hawaii State Energy Office to support the transition of private fleets to zero-emission vehicles. Designates the Hawaii State Energy Office as the agency responsible for developing and administering the program and requires the Hawaii State Energy Office to work with the Department of Transportation to design strategies to implement the zero-emission vehicle fleet purchasing assistance program.
The state government leaders proposing 100% clean energy by 2045 are asking everyone to eventually purchase electric vehicles to help with the 100% clean energy goal. Currently, there are 29,781 registered electric vehicles in Hawaii. That amounts to about 2.8% of the 1,079,506 registered vehicles in Hawaii.
