BOISE, Idaho – A date has been set for the execution of Idaho’s longest-serving death row inmate.
Thomas Creech has an execution date of February 28, 2024, as the state review board denied his petition for clemency.
Creech was sentenced to death in January 1983 for the murder of a fellow inmate.
He had been in prison already for the murder of four people.
According to Idaho Governor Brad Little’s office, Creech “admitted to killing or participating in the killing of at least 26 people.”
As recently as last week, Creech was named a person of interest in a 1974 cold case in California.
The State of Idaho issued a death warrant for Creech last fall, saying he should be executed in early November.
Creech appealed that and had a hearing before the Idaho Commission of Pardons and Parole.
The Death Penalty Information Center says Creech’s trial attorney supported his request, saying he was not the man he was in 1981.
He cited what he calls Creech’s “near perfect disciplinary record.”
