New Idaho law targets prescription drug costs through pharmacy benefit manager regulation

BOISE, Idaho – A new Idaho law aimed at lowering prescription drug costs by increasing the regulation of pharmacy benefit managers took effect Monday. House Bill 596, signed into law last April, implements new transparency requirements and business regulations on pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) – the third-party companies that act as middlemen and negotiate drug discounts and rebates between manufacturers, insurance companies and pharmacies.
