John Deere Announces Major Layoffs in Illinois

Economic Challenges Force John Deere to Slash Illinois Workforce

John Deere, the global leader in the sale of tractors and crop harvesters, has announced another significant round of layoffs, affecting approximately 610 production staff at its Illinois and Iowa plants. This decision comes as a result of decreased demand for products manufactured at these locations.

The latest wave of layoffs will affect around 280 workers at the East Moline, Illinois plant, and their employment will terminate on August 30. John Deere cited rising operational costs and a decline in market demand as the driving factors behind this move. The company, which reported $10.166 billion in profits last year, emphasized the need for enterprise-wide changes to achieve long-term goals and ensure future stability.

“We can confirm Deere leadership recently communicated that rising operational costs and declining market demand requires enterprise-wide changes in how work gets done to achieve our goals and best position the company for the future.” John Deere statement
