Central Illinois election commissions seeing increased walk-in early voters

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — People are lining up out the door to cast their ballot in this year’s General Election.

Early voting began Sept. 26, with Peoria County seeing an increase since then.

Elizabeth Gannon, executive director of the Peoria County Election Commission, shared the uptick in votership since last month.

“From the get go, right out the gate, we were averaging around three hundred voters a day here in Peoria County,” she said. “Starting last Thursday, we were up to five hundred. So and I only see that continuing to grow as we get closer and closer to the election.”

Gannon also broke down the data for mail-in ballots they’ve sent out and received.

“We have mailed out just under twenty-three thousand vote by mail ballots and we have received back just over thirteen thousand of those ballots so far,” she said. “So we’re right around a fifty-eight to sixty percent return rate.”

John Ackerman, Tazewell County clerk, said he’s seen the amount of walk-in early voters increase since Sept. 26 as well. McLean County has not yet reached back out to our email inquiry on data.
