Federal US judge strikes down Illinois assault weapons ban over Second Amendment violations

A federal US judge struck down Illinois’ Protect Illinois Communities Act (PICA) on Friday, ruling it unconstitutional under the Second Amendment of the US Constitution. US District Judge Stephen McGlynn ruled that PICA infringes on an individual’s Second Amendment rights, citing recent US Supreme Court interpretations of the Second Amendment. He stated: “The Government may not deprive law-abiding citizens of their guaranteed right to self-defense as a means of offense.” The decision further said that “[t]here are those who seek to usher in a sort of post-Constitution era where the citizens’ individual rights are only as important as they are convenient to a ruling class.”
