(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The FCC needs to be tougher on robocallers according to a coalition of attorneys general .
Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul joined 45 other attorneys general in a bi-partisan push to better vet and hold accountable, bad actors exploiting an existing loophole that allows them access to the nation’s telephone network.
That is accomplished by providing incomplete and sometimes false information when registering with the FCC database, leading to no real consequences for violations.
The coalition of attorneys general called on the Federal Communications Commission to improve its Robocall Mitigation Database and to penalize providers for submitting false or inadequate information. The coalition called for preventing them from receiving authorization to operate and blocking non-compliant providers.
