Amelia Heinze ‘s swimming state medal collection has officially hit a dozen.
The senior wrapped up her career by taking home two state runners-up and two third-place finishes in athlete with disabilities competition at the Illinois High School Association girls swimming state finals on Saturday. She ends her high school swimming career with two golds, four silvers and six bronzes at the FMC Natatorium in Westmont.
Heinze’s two second-place finishes were in the 50-yard freestyle (29.8 seconds) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:22.33). She won both of those events last season.
In her other two races, Heinze clocked in at 2:42.16 in the 200-yard freestyle, while taking 1:06.74 in the 100-yard freestyle for her pair of third places.
Washington sophomore Ava Gensler took fifth in the 50-yard freestyle in 58.62 seconds.
