These are the fastest-growing cities in Illinois, according to new report

(NEXSTAR) — While some 300,000 people moved out of Illinois last year, a recent analysis found some cities across the Land of Lincoln are still growing.

Personal finance website SmartAsset recently analyzed data from the U.S. Census Bureau to find the fastest-growing cities in the nation. Of the more than 600 cities analyzed based on one- and five-year changes in population, the report found five cities — two in Maryland and three in Texas — saw their population increase by more than 10% between 2022 and 2023.

One Illinois city, Elgin, wasn’t far behind. Coming in seventh overall, Elgin saw a year-over-year population increase of more than 8%, according to SmartAsset’s analysis. Between 2018 and 2023, the city’s population grew by slightly less at 7%.
