Durbin reelected to second highest ranking democrat in the senate

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WTVO) — Illinois Senator Dick Durbin has been reelected to serve as the Senate Democratic Whip by his constituents on Tuesday.

Durbin was unanimously selected to continue holding his position in the Senate for the upcoming 119th Congress. Durbin has held this position since 2005.

Durbin has been in Congress since 1983 and has served in the Senate for 27 years.

The 80-year-old senator has not yet announced if he will run for reelection. His term ends in 2026.

Only five other Illinois politicians have served as leaders for their party in the Senate.
