Ice Storm, Winter Storm Warnings continue through Monday morning

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) -Our major winter storm is still on track to hit the Tri-State very early Sunday morning through Monday. The track of the storm has shifted slightly to the south, which means freezing rain and ice are now bigger concerns for Western Kentucky. An ice storm warning is now in effect for all of our Western Kentucky counties until Monday morning, and a Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Indiana and Illinois. Up to 1/2″ of ice may accumulate on trees and power lines across Kentucky, while snow will be the main concern in Indiana and Illinois. Widespread power outages are possible, and you should prepare to be without power, especially if you live in Western Kentucky. While the ice storm will not be as bad as the 2009 storm, there will still be widespread impacts and disruptions. North of the Ohio River, we are expecting a wintry mix of snow/sleet and freezing rain. 2-5″ of accumulation is possible, with amounts getting heavier the farther north you go (north of I-64). You should gather supplies today and plan to not travel on Sunday or Monday. Brutally cold air will follow the storm, so whatever falls will stay around next week.
