Bill trying to stop Blue Line headed for third reading in Senate

INDIANAPOLIS — The fight over the Indy Go Blue Line continues in the Indiana Statehouse. A bill that would outlaw dedicated bus lanes across the state is set for a third reading in the Senate on Monday.

Senate Bill 52, sponsored by State Sen. Aaron Freeman, R-District 32, and State Sen. Blake Doriot, R-Disrtrict 12, aims to prevent public transportation projects like the Blue Line from featuring one or more lanes dedicated to public transit vehicles.

Indiana State Senate to hear bill threatening Blue Line development

The Blue Line would turn more than 24 miles of Washington Street into bus rapid transit with a dedicated bus lane. It would connect Cumberland to the Indianapolis International Airport.

The Blue Line is the third distinct line of the Indy Go plan. The Red Line heads north of downtown Indianapolis, and the Purple Line is currently under construction. It’s set to connect the city to Lawrence with a dedicated bus lane.

On Thursday, SB 52 was read for the second time . Sen. Freeman said he wants shared lanes.
