RICHMOND, Ind. — U.S. Rep. Greg Pence, Indiana’s 6th District, made a trip to Wayne County last week.
The purpose of the congressman’s visit was to meet with Richmond Mayor Ron Oler to receive updates about the different projects and improvements going on around the city and surrounding areas.
Pence announced on X three weeks ago that he was not running for re-election, becoming the state’s fourth representative in this upcoming election to not seek another term.
After his meeting, The Palladium-Item sat down with Pence to talk about the meeting, as well as his time in office over the last five years and what’s next for him.
What brought you to Richmond?
“We wanted to meet the mayor and talk about what his plans are and getting an update on what he was going to focus on. He’s got the transition issues that he’s very much involved in, but he also shared the I-70 projects and the Gateway thoughts. I’m on the Energy and Commerce Committee, and I’m on the energy subcommittee, and we talked about the coal plant here and some of the issues that would be a problem going forward for Richmond and the state of Indiana if they close that too quick. So I told him what I had been working on there as well.”
