(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A lawmaker from Northwest Indiana wants the state to fund research into how a drug from psychedelic mushrooms could help treat some medical and mental health conditions.
State Sen. Ed Charbonneau, R-Valparaiso, said his measure is not meant to legalize psilocybin, but he said the drug could help people who suffer from issues ranging from bipolar disorder to PTSD to depression.
His bill would offer funding to Indiana researchers who want to study how effective it is.
The bill has reached the floor of the Indiana Senate. If successful there, it would move to the Indiana House.
