EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — Although we are still a few months away from the 16th Honor Flight of Southern Indiana, excitement is already in the air. Today was phone blitz day, where volunteers spent the morning calling veterans and beginning the selection process.
“We are ready to get this year started with the next two flights. EVV 16 is right around the corner and it will be here before we know it,” says Heather Laflen, a volunteer with Honor Flight of Southern Indiana.
Volunteers called over 80 veterans and guardians and asked them to come in for a one-on-one interview on March 2nd. This allows volunteers to ask questions and ensure each veteran’s medical needs are met.
“Sometimes they will go ahead and tell you a few stories. So it just gets you prepared for what is going to happen in the coming days,” Laflen says.
The veterans scheduled to come in for interviews come from different backgrounds.
“There was a set of brothers that we called today, so it looks like they are going to be on the flight together, and on the same bus,” Laflen says.
