State Sen. Messmer launches bid for Congress

JASPER, Ind. (WEHT) — Indiana State Senator Mark Messmer launched his campaign for Congress on Saturday with an event in Jasper.

He’s one of many who are trying to snag Congressman Larry Bucshon’s seat in the state’s eighth congressional district after he retires.

In his remarks, Republican Messmer said he will work tirelessly for several issues, including faith, family and hard work while in Washington.

U.S. Senator Mike Braun was at the event to show support for Messmer.

“Let’s give it up for the next congressman for the eighth district,” said Braun.

“Since the day I first ran for State Rep. in 2008, I thought this day might happen,” said Messmer. “I’m devoted to tackling the pressing issues like illegal immigration, safeguarding our borders, protecting the unborn, balancing the federal budget, stopping the woke agenda and growing jobs in southwest Indiana.”

Messmer said he also wants to bring responsibility to Washington and create a strong business climate.

“We have to try to do what you can to knock down impediments for business, to try to remove excessive regulations. We’ve done that consistently for 20 years in Indiana and created a tremendous business environment for the people of our state,” said Messmer.
