Indiana bill would hold back third graders who don’t pass state reading test

INDIANAPOLIS (WNDU) – It was said today as many as 14,000 families will be impacted by a proposed change in Indiana’s “Grade Retention Policy.”. That policy calls for children to be held back if they haven’t passed the state reading test by third grade. A flurry of amendments hit the House floor on Monday, that would have abandoned the policy, delayed it, or provided an exemption for English learners.
