Republican Todd Rokita and Democrat Destiny Wells compete in Indiana attorney general race

This year’s Indiana attorney general race sees incumbent Republican Todd Rokita face off against Democrat Destiny Wells . Here’s what to know about each candidate.

Indiana’s attorney general acts as the state’s chief legal officer, and represents the state and its agencies, officials and employees in both civil and criminal cases in state and federal courts.

The attorney general also oversees specialized areas like consumer protection and Medicaid fraud. Consumers also may have interacted with the unclaimed property unit of the AG’s office.

Indiana is one of 43 states with an elected attorney general. There are seven states where the attorney general is appointed by the governor.

Rokita was first elected to the Attorney General’s Office in 2020. He’s had a long political career in Indiana, serving as Indiana secretary of state from 2002 to 2010 and a U.S. representative for Indiana’s Fourth Congressional District until 2019.

He ran uncontested in this year’s AG primary and received an endorsement from former President Donald Trump. Rokita says his values include “working to stop woke ideology targeting kids in the classroom” and “safeguarding our constitutional rights and liberties.”
