NEWBURGH, Ind. — What became obvious in recent weeks was never a guarantee with this team.

Castle faced questions in August. Among them, who would step up to replace a strong senior class? Back-to-back losses in the first week also did little to instill confidence. Slowly but surely, with a couple of key results at the right time, the perception changed.

No. 12 Castle emphatically reminded everyone who was the team to beat in the Class 3A sectional. The final result was a 6-0 victory over Harrison in the championship on Saturday for the 15th title in program history. In three postseason games, the Knights outscored the opposition 19-1.

“They got better and better and better as the year went on,” said Castle coach Mike Reiter. “It was individual choices they made, but they (also) released the ego and bought in as a team. They enjoy competing together. We knew Central, North and Harrison would come at us with everything. It was a testament to their commitment.”
